About Us

St. Anthony of Padua Church was founded in 1891 by Fr. Antonio Gibelli of the Missionary Fathers of St. Charles Borromeo, the Scalabrinians, nicknamed after their founder, St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini. The mission of the congregation was to maintain the Catholic faith among Italian immigrants in the Americas. Due to the nature of this unique mission, great Saints have entered the doors of St. Anthony, including St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini and America's first citizen to be canonized a Saint, Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. 

The Oratory of St. Anthony of Padua was the home to Italian migrants of Western New York and continues to be the mother church of both Western New York and Southern Ontario's Italian-American community in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, within the Downtown Family of Parishes. St. Anthony’s has also been home to the Traditional Latin Mass community for the Diocese of Buffalo since 1990. Since 2024, St. Anthony’s has been under the pastoral care of the Fathers and Brothers of St. Philip Neri House.
